GOOD FRIDAY; HOLY WEEK

TEXT: MATTHEW 27:32-56
THEME: I WAS CRUCIFIED WITH HIM
 INTRODUCTION;
Dear friend in Christ Jesus good morning blessings. Today across the Christian Church, the Church universal, we are celebrating what is known as the ” GOOD FRIDAY”. Why is it called Good Friday? It is called so because the death of someone who died which should have been said a bad death was done with a Good intention for the Good of all humanity. How else can we call such a death when someone decided to allow Himself to die in the place of an uncountable multitude? This has affected the lives of generation upon generation unborn. This can be nothing short of Good. So we do not mourn on Good Friday as we see some people do, we rather on Good Friday rejoice over what God did for humanity. Jesus Christ told the women of Jerusalem, “Daughters weep for yourselves and not for me”. If we must weep, then we must weep that while He died we did not consider His death worth something in our lives but now that we have realized it, instead of weeping, let us rejoice that we now know Him, his sufferings and the power of His resurrection. Hallelujah!!!
Good Friday is an important day in the life of the Christian community, whereby Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday. There is no resurrection without the cross. Hence no Easter Sunday without Good Friday. Just like if He didn’t come (Christmas Day); He couldn’t have died (Good Friday) and there wouldn’t have been any resurrection (Easter Sunday). All these days in the Christian calendar is highly respected and celebrated. Glory to God, hallelujah!!!
Jesus died for our sake. He was crucified like a criminal for our sake. He tasted death so we can taste life. Jesus Christ was abandoned, rejected, humiliated. He was wounded, tortured because of us ( Isaiah 53:5). But by that stripes we were healed. So His wounds because our salvation, glory to God in the highest!!!
Despite all of these, this day would have been called bad Friday or sorrowful Friday as already mentioned but no, it is termed “Good Friday”. This is because Christ’s bleeding on the cross brought great blessing to humanity.
★ I pray for you, may the blessings that comes with this day not pass you by in  powerful name of Jesus Christ Amen.
From our text, we can note the following:

 POINTS TO NOTE

✓ Jesus Christ was wounded to a point where he could not carry his cross Himself. Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry the cross. We are
therefore partakers of Jesus’ suffering and death ( Mathew 16:24-26). There’s no way to follow this man of Galilee and not share in his sufferings. He Himself said if you must follow me, take up your cross “DAILY” and follow me.
✓ Jesus Christ was stripped naked and lots was casted for his garment. ( Mathew 27:35). They didn’t tear his garment because it was too expensive, so they had to cast lots. Not even any of His bones were broken on the cross as was the case with the others. It was the fulfilment of scriptures that said none of His bones will be broken. Not even you will experience defect in your lifetime. All that concern’s you, I prophesy will all be intact, your health, your body and your soul.
✓ Jesus Christ was named king of the Jews. Unfortunately they didn’t understand the kingship of Jesus. They thought Jesus was just an earthly king or just a king of the Jews. Little did they know Jesus is the king of Kings whose kingdom shall never end (Luke 1:33).
✓ Jesus Christ was crucified with two robbers. One of them repented and confessed Christ. Jesus immediately promised him paradise. All you need to do is to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is LORD and salvation is made unto you ( Romans 10:9-10)
✓ The chief priests, scribes and Elders insulted and humiliated Jesus. He saved others but cannot save Himself.( Mathew 27:41-43). This is a man who has become a selfless sacrifices just so you and I will not experience the kind of humiliation and shame that He bore on the cross for us. Yet many people have not understood this and not will to simply answer the call of following a man who has done it all for them.
✓ Jesus was given sour wine ( Mathew 27:48) Even ordinary water could not be given to a man who gave water to those who were thirsty (John 4:13). This was also the maintain his holiness and sanctity as a true child of God. No doubt the bible calls Him the spotless Lamb. We must do all we can do that we continue to represent His imagine here on earth.
✓ The veil of the temple was torn into two when Jesus died ( Mathew 27:51). Before Jesus died, the people depended on the high priest to talk or hear from God, since he was the only one allowed into the holy of holies. But Jesus bridged the gap and we can have access to God, speak with him and hear from him ourselves directly. What a privilege that Jesus Christ gave us on the day of his death. I now have direct access to my heavenly Father. I can talk with Him and tell Him how I feel and what’s going on in my life. What a privilege, and all thanks to His death. I don’t need a man to be saved. All I need is to accept Him and all that He did for me on Calvary.
✓ The graves were opened after Jesus Christ died. Those who were held in bondage got save by the dead of Jesus. His death symbolises that we cannot remain in the grave, because even the grave could not hold Him captive, so I took cannot be held captive by any situation or circumstance. His death has freed me from all that has entangled me. Hallelujah!!!
✓  Many people believed and began to proclaim Christ as God’s son after his dead. The guards confessed ” Truly this was the son of God”. His death has brought salvation to many including myself. What a privilege to know Him. Many are yet to know Him that’s why on this day, the Christian Church is praying for the conversion of the Jews who have not yet believed in Him and those around us who have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. We must bring them in the family of God.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DEATH OF CHRIST

1) Christ Died To Reconcile Man To God
We were once separated from God because of our sins. When Adam and Eve sinned and were driven from the garden of Eden, we were lost. We lost our relationship with God. But Jesus restored us to God by dying on the cross. Through His death, we are reconciled to God ( Ephesians 2:13). His death brought us near to God so we can have intimate relationship with Him.
2) Christ Died To Deliver Us From Curses And Spells
Curses and spells are the consequences of sin. By Jesus’ death you are not permitted to be a victim of generational curses or witchcraft spells ( Galatians 3:13-14). You are exempted from them by the blood of Jesus.
3) Christ Died To Redeem Us
Without the sacrifice of Jesus, we could have been condemned for our sins (Romans 8:1) All our  condemnation was poured out on Jesus. We were redeem/ saved by the precious blood of Jesus Christ without blemish and spot( Hebrews 9:22, 1 Peter 1:18-19)
4) Christ Died To Give Us Eternal Life
Without the death of Christ, we would have been condemned to eternal death. Hell was our destination until Jesus stepped in and rescued us. Because of His death we have eternal and everlasting life ( John 3:16)
5) Christ Died To Prove How Much He Loves Us
There is no greater proof that God loves you than Jesus dying for you on the cross (John 15:13) Jesus cried out “My God My God why have you forsaken me”? (Mathew 27:46). Jesus was cutt off from His Father because of you and me. The reason Jesus went this far was because of His love for us!
 CONCLUSION
For the first time God took His eyes off Jesus because he was bearing our sins and God cannot behold sin( Habakkuk 1:13). Jesus took everything that is not of God in our lives so we can be free. Jesus suffered shame, pain, He was flogged, beaten, the crown of thorns was placed on His head. Jesus died for you and I. On the cross Jesus took away my guilt, pain, sin, mistakes, disgrace, I was crucified with Him and in Him. Therefore as he rises on Easter Sunday, I am rising with Him, hallelujah!!!
I don’t know how far you may have gone away from God, it is time to come back. Repent today  and allow Jesus fix your life. Repent today so that you will make heaven at last. Remember that even at the cross He still gave the repentant thief the opportunity to meet with him in paradise. Don’t let His death be in vain. I’m not talking about you going to Church but I’m talking about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Consider that as He died so he died with everything negative concerning your life and you’re now a completely new creation in Christ Jesus, a changed person for that matter, hallelujah!!! . Galatians 2:20 summaries everything about Him and us today. Open your Bible, read it and be blessed.
