THEME: FOCUS: AVOID DISTRACTION
Dear friend in Christ Jesus good morning blessings. Yesterday I was attending the conference you have on the flyer above titled RAISING THE DEBORAH’S OF OUR GENERATION. The program is having as Visionary the Rev Ikome Irene a Cameroon coming all the way from the United Kingdom. The conference is holding at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Bota Limbe. I will encourage those around Limbe to attend this morning and evening. See flyer for details. Today is the last day beginning this morning from 9:00 Am.
Yesterday there’s something I learned from this ongoing conference and which I want to amplify today for our edification. Rev Ikome Irene said something about Martha when Jesus Christ came visiting their home. Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus Christ listening to the Word but Martha her sister was busy trying to prepare all the different dishes so th
at they can entertain and feed the man of God well. Someone would expect Jesus Christ to appreciate Martha’s hardwork to have food on the table but Jesus Christ chose to speak in favour of Mary over against Martha. The scriptures records that, “But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made”. Then Martha
complained, “Master don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me” (Luke 10:40). This is Jesus’ response, “Martha , Martha, you are worried and upset about many things. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (John 10:41).
What Mary chose to do was better as the scripture says. We have what we call in life “Misplacement of Priority”. A lot of people do not succeed in life not because they don’t have openings, well positioned benefactors, or the means. They fail because they don’t know how to focus on the assignment or responsibilities at hand. Some people easily get distracted and derailed. We sometimes want to do anything and everything just to survive. You cannot succeed with such an empty and unrealistic agenda. Mary did the right thing because listening to the one who holds your future, someone who has the power to provide food without a kitchen, was the most important thing to do. So Martha’s focus in the kitchen was not what was vital at the time.
Take one step at a time. Take one responsibility and focus on it and keep moving. Only a few people can be multi-tasked and still succeed but that grace is not for everyone. You must know what you’re good at. You must know which one comes first? You must avoid those things that drain your energy or resources without positive results. Women when you go to the market to sell, focus on your business. Don’t put your business down and before we know it, you’re already in another market line, arguing about the Philippines film (Brothers). Is that why you went to the market that morning? I am just using this as an example. Also, you have saved some money to begin a housing project but before you start, you have already given the money to your friends or you may have drank 1/4 of the money or bought dresses which were not part of the budget. Those are distractions. Some Friends are distractions. Some unnecessary parties or ceremonies are distractions. Draw yourself away from them and focus on the greater task and mission. Some people who are going nowhere will want you to go nowhere as well.
You want to get married. Is that your focus right now? Then work today that. You want to buy a plot to build a house, is that your focus right now? Then work hard and save more money. You want to save money to start a particular business, then focus on that. But as soon as you see some dresses that they are being advertised on the phone or around, you just call off that business project and you are engaged in buying, that’s a distraction. Focus, have a vision and a plan for your life. Stick to the plan and see how you can get your destiny fulfilled. Avoid lazy friends, avoid unnecessary expenditures, avoid unnecessary company and unnecessary late nights all in the name of enjoyment. Focus people are successful people but distracted people are already failure. The choice is yours now!!

Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing your Word to me this morning. I pray that I remain undetached and unwavering in my duties and responsibilities for a good success, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Amen.
